The Mayor of Leyburn, Mrs Margaret Knight, was among a party to take part in the inaugural walk to celebrate Leyburn joining the Walkers Are Welcome Towns Network.

The walk of about three miles took place on Yorkshire Day August 1 and was led by Diana Jolland, the leader of Leyburn's Walkers Are Welcome group.

  Leyburn treasurer required

Leyburn gained WAW status in June of this year, following work by a small group of volunteers. This group is in need of a volunteer to take on the responsibility of treasurer. If you are interested in walking and promoting Leyburn as a visitor destination, and would like to become involved please contact the secretary Alix Warland at The Dales Haven Guest House, Market Place, Leyburn  or call 01969 623814.

  Parking in Leyburn

The Leyburn Walkers Are Welcome Group asks walkers visiting the town to use the long-stay car park behind the Golden Lion Hotel. This provides easy access to the town and town walks for a small charge. Parking in and around the Market Place is free but is designed for shoppers and short-stay visitors. If you are going on a walk of more than two hours, please consider the needs of local shoppers and use the long-stay car park. Thank you.
